100Mbit up and down connection coming soon!

The internet connection we get in Sweden is excellent and when you consider we're in a very small village, 60km from what would be considered quite a small town in England, and you get a 10Mbit download connection and a 4Mbit upload connection, you can't complain.

Current internet connection speeds

Imagine my happiness then when the local provider, AllTele, call me up offering me a 100Mbit upload and 100Mbit download connection for an extra fiver a month! I was so surprised that they were offering us this that I was a little cautious, I asked the right questions, but he assures me we'll get that upload and download to 98% - which is pretty much exactly what we get on what they provide at the moment.

Seeing as a lot of what I do is uploading and downloading to servers in the UK, the US and South Africa, this will hopefully save me quite a bit of time and it might even mean that I run a small website off my QNAP, just to put it through it's paces. I'd sort of held off doing it with my current connection only because it only really offers 4Mbit when uploading. Now with 100Mbit uploading, I think it will be fine. This might even mean setting up a proper server at home - but we'll have to wait and see about that.

It will definitely mean I can cancel my shared server space at Bluehost as I was sending backups to that nightly, now I can feel confident that backups can come here and sit on the QNAP, as it's running RAID1 and with this connection, it should happen very fast.

So, 100Mbit internet connection coming soon; you've got to be happy with that.
