Forking off from Mambo: MiaCMS
If the poor old chaps at the Mambo Foundation hadn't had it bad enough the past couple of years, it's just getting worse for them, with the news that more people are jumping ship.
I say it's getting worse because everyone seems to be leaving. This time it's Al Warren, Chad Auld, Ozgur Cem Sen and Richard Ong. They've left to start up the MiaCMS, by taking the Mambo code.
By taking the code they are basically becoming a fork of Mambo. They've left because they felt that the policies, processes, and priorities of the Mambo Foundation were having a negative impact on the code and the community.
Innovation, creativity, and team spirit have all but been eliminated.
Some of you will remember that Joomla forked from Mambo, for maybe not the exact same reasons but the same reasons. Joomla has gone on and become huge and Mambo suffered.
Mambo will suffer again because of this, but ultimately the project will survive and continue; it just can't be very nice for the community.
It's also going to be interesting to watch how the MiaCMS develops, it's not nice if you're a user, but still quite interesting.
